Summer Vacation:
Zappe Trio (June 2000)

Day One - June 6, 2000

Here we all are, happy and smiling ready to spend four weeks of grueling road travel without a break from each other.

Becca seems to be the only one interested in this landmark, Chris is already bored, and Steve is holding the camera.

Red bike rack gets a tune up along the way. THREE bikes on a tiny roof. It's a wonder they're all still there.

Pit stop at the Kansas state border line. Ready for the scenic leg of our trip!

Obviously we're happy to be in Kansas... see the smiles on our faces? Frankly, this is about as exciting as Kansas gets.

We spent the first night up the road from this place... just in case Chris suddenly vanished.

Day Two - June 7, 2000

Ramming Speed! Steve defends himself from a daring assault at 15 mph.

One of the places we visited where genealogy is served fresh every day. Some old family members used to come here.

The highlight of our day! This strange tractor has no axle and is driven by hydraulics for roughly four feet of clearance. YIKES!

Chris expresses his joy about leaving Kansas, nearly relocating his head in the process.

Paying homage to dead Zappes of yore. Here are the kids hiding behind a headstone in a rural cemetery.
