Summer Vacation:
Zappe Trio (June 2000)

Day Seven - June 12, 2000

Chris visited an old friend, Megan Kraushaar near Lansing, Michigan. Here, Becca breaks into song and Maverick, the Kraushaar's husky, accompanies with an appropriate harmony.

The Canadian Border sign looms ominous over our heads as we seek a night's shelter under the maple leaf flag. The tragic results are shown below...

Day Eight - June 13, 2000

The tent is transformed into a sopping wreck by an overnight rain shower. Chris stands miserably in a dripping poncho while Becca waves quickly from the relative dryness of the Civic.

We finally made it out of the campsite only to end up in more rain later on at Niagara Falls. Oh well, what could we do? We're already drenched anyway.

This is one of the best views we got of the falls due to sloppy Canadian weather. The clouds were taking the day off to mingle with the tourists. Lousy Canada.

Steve clarifies our position on a detailed satellite map of the area. The disembodied finger indicates precisely where we were standing at the Canadian Falls.

The only real entertainment of the day was found in tossing small puffed corn cereal balls at birds in the parking lot. This one got away before we made lunch out of it, though.

That evening we raised the tent back up in Buffalo to let the wind dry it up. There was a suggestion that we camp out by the window but the TV didn't have a long enough power cable.

Day Nine - June 14, 2000

A great many dead people call Forest Lawn their home. We paid them a visit on our way through and took this compelling shot.

Becca takes advantage of the wet conditions at our campsite today to go swimming. Both of the guys stayed on dry land and killed blood sucking insects for a few hours.

Today's hunt for poultry is sadly unsuccessful but a neat picture came out of it. The duck you see was obviously amused by the chase and showed us by bringing her family along with her when she returned.

The ducks found it entertaining how we were reduced to eating noodles out of a can that evening. Mother duck brings her kids along for a free meal and Rebecca names them after her favorite band members.

Day Ten - June 15, 2000

Since we couldn't drive across this lake, we took the ferry into Vermont. In this dramatic reenactment of her favorite movie, Becca shouts, "I'm Queen of the Ferries!" We'll just leave it at that.

Ahh, Vermont. That little state when Ben & Jerry's ice cream was once produced. The company has since been moved out of state but Becca proudly displays a carton in this cool zoom shot.

The New Hampshire border was all but invisible. Can you find the sign? Try it now at 40 mph surrounded by a biker gang and you'll understand our situation.

Later that day, Chris tries to perform video capture on the road to save some time at the hotel room. Unfortunately, he drains camera battery after only six pictures so there are no more shots today. What a geek.
